FD Mediagroep B Corp Certified
Amsterdam, April 15, 2025 – The Dutch media company FD Mediagroep has been certified as a B Corp. The international certification, awarded by B Lab, demonstrates that the company meets high social and environmental standards. FD Mediagroep – best known for the Dutch Het Financieele Dagblad, BNR Nieuwsradio, Company.info, and the London-based IPE – welcomes the recognition and sees it as a motivation to keep moving forward and building on its progress.
With this certification, FD Mediagroep becomes part of a globally growing group of companies committed to sustainable and social progress. In the media sector, the Guardian Media Group preceded them. In the Netherlands, companies such as Albert Heijn, Rituals, and Triodos Bank are also B Corp certified.
“We are proud to have achieved B Corp certification. Obtaining this certification means that our journalistic work and data products meet high standards of quality, transparency, social impact, and sustainability. For us, ESG is not just a non-binding promise but a structural pillar within our organization. The B Corp standards provide us with a clear compass to continue growing sustainably and making a lasting, positive impact.” said Eugenie van Wiechen, CEO of FD Mediagroep.
For the certification, the company was thoroughly examined by B Lab, focusing on five key pillars: governance, environment, employees, customers, and community. FD Mediagroep scored 94.1 out of a maximum of 200 points in the B Impact Assessment.
Tessa van Soest, Executive Director of B Lab Benelux, on FD Mediagroep joining the B Corp community: “As a pioneering media company, FD Mediagroep plays a crucial role in the dissemination of independent and factual information—an invaluable asset, especially in today’s world. B Lab strives for an economic system in which companies create value for all their stakeholders. Transparency about impact and continuous improvement are central to this mission. The B Corp certification is a significant milestone for FD Mediagroep, and we look forward to their next steps in sustainability and their contribution to our community.”
FD Mediagroep’s societal contribution primarily stems from its core values: high-quality, transparent, and independent journalism, as well as reliable information based on business data. This is crucial in an era of increasing misinformation, distrust, and polarization.
In addition, FD Mediagroep seeks to make a broader contribution to society through various initiatives, such as fake news workshops in secondary schools and collaborations with organizations dedicated to press freedom and the protection of journalists. The company structurally integrates sustainability and social objectives into its decision-making process, based on its ESG policy (Environmental, Social, Governance). Alongside independent and high-quality journalism, key priorities include ethical data usage, responsible employment practices, and a sustainable carbon footprint. With the recent certification, this commitment is now also legally embedded in its statutes.
The B Corp certification applies to the operations of FD Mediagroep and is clearly distinct from the editorial independence of the editorial teams, as outlined in the statutes of Het Financieele Dagblad, BNR Nieuwsradio, and FD Business.
